"Don't give up, live life with your head held high"

One day I came across a boy who was invisible to the light. His life is dark, his days are gray, and his world deviates upside down. Ryan’s gone through more than I could ever imagine, much more than I’ve experienced and personally gone through. I have never came across someone quite like him at school. Ryan is emotionally unstable at home and school.

As a young boy, his parents, and friends didn’t fully accept him for who he is and was treated horribly. Growing up, Ryan’s parents did not claim him to be their son; basically they gave up on him at just three years old and right then, got adopted to his new family. Later on in his life, he got to meet his two older brothers he considers to look up to. What he realizes, is he wanted to have friends who could be there for him through everything he goes through. Ryan thought he will not ever be good enough to be someone’s friend. He deals with judgemental people who make fun of his appearance and his personality, making him feel like he don’t belong in this world. Ryan gets bullied at school, abused at home, and suffers from depression . He started getting bullied and abused at about eight years old, and still hasn’t stopped till this day. He grew up emotionally aggressive and at the same time, pensive for all the situations he got put in.

In addition to Ryan’s emotions, his life seemed to break him down into psychomotor agitation and erratic behavior. At about nine years of age, he met a girl named Joy and soon they were a couple. Ryan only being a fourth grader, insanely fell in love but Joy changed his life around and made him feel like he happened to be on top of the world. She opened her heart out to him and showed him what love meant. She taught him lessons about life and how to be himself without caring what other people think and say about him. Ryan and Joy were in a relationship for two years. He luckily revealed happiness when he found someone like her because she made him feel special, other than that he didn’t know what real happiness felt like. Consequently, he lost twelve year old Joy and fell into deep depression after finding out she died in a car accident by a drunk driver. The car she happened to be in caught on fire, and Ryan’s mind struck out of control because he promised her that he wouldn’t let anything bad happen to her. The bad part about that promise was that he had no control over it. The crash happened accidentally, and Ryan didn’t realize that he had no blame over a situation that he wasn’t involved to have control over. Losing her as his love of his life was the most tragic part of his life. His life changed dramatically, emotionally and intensively. Later, Ryan’s actions started to change because his loss influenced him badly, and tried many times to commit suicide. Due to his bipolar disorder that he has been suffering from since he was eight years of age, he almost died his Junior year for overdosing from Lithium which was his medication in helping him with his bipolar disorder.

Through every opened and closed doors, he felt like his life was not worth living. The reason why Ryan felt unworthy in life is because he was surrounded by negative energy. Most of his friends judged him, made fun of him, and would be embarrassed to be seen with him. They did not know what behind the closed doors of his past and his opened doors to death. Until he came across a girl like me who is real and does not judge a book by its cover, Ryan opened his eyes and wisely figured out who his real friends are. When I first met him, he started sitting with me at lunch and his guy friends started drama saying “why did u ditch us for that H**”...“don’t bring that B**** to our spot”. I did not understand why his so called guy “friends” would be so quick to judge me when they didn’t even know me. I ignored them though because all they had was a mouth to talk behind peoples back and not say something to their face. Unless they said something to my face and/or started bullying Ryan, I’ll stick up for myself and him if I had to. One day I said to Ryan “Do not to change for people, only change the way you think about yourself and your life”. Ryan hung out with friends that made him want to be someone else, someone who isn’t quite like himself because he wanted to fit in with the rest. I influenced him as his motivator in life, the positive impact knowing it was okay being “different from others”, and most importantly his real friend who will be there to support his dream, his goals, help him see the world on the brighter side, and make him anticipate that he is worth living.

Throughout his whole life, he realized what his dream is and that nothing would stop him from believing in himself. His dream is becoming a singer, and having someone teach him how to rap along the way. Ryan’s brother encouraged him to express his emotions by singing and rapping. When I got to know him better, I told him I rap. He heard one of my recordings and looked surprised, and he was also jealous. I met his producer, and I got him to hearing the recording too, and now we all are coming together to test our talents together as a group.
After all, everything he went through at home and school has made him stronger and closer to his dreams today. Ryan stopped thinking negative thoughts, he started going to rehab, he stopped caring what others think, and best of all, he’s come forth to reaching his full potential. Ryan now follows the path that God is leading him to and he’s thankful that God has brought me into his life. Ryan’s dream’s coming to reality.

The boy I came across to inspired me to write this story about him because he's been through many bad experiences and still manages to keep his head help high. I've encouraged him to share his lifelong stories with me without being afraid. I hope each and every individual gets to share their story and live up to their dream and believe in themselves no matter what their past and present days throws at them.
