The Root of Doom
It was a sunny day in the summer, the wind was blowing a light breeze, and the evening couldn’t have been any better that end of July day. Until . . . the incident happened about 4 years ago, that meant I was 10 years old at the time. I was in Muskegon at this place called the Muskegon Motorcycle Club. To this day it was one of the most scariests moments of my life . . .
I was getting my gear on. I had to have a lot of gear on so then I was protected from getting hurt. I wore gear like my helment, gloves, knee pads, elbow pads, boots, goggles, etc. I said to myself “This is the one of the most exciting moments in my life.” Once I started I could already tell what the smell was I was smelling. The smell was the gas coming out of the motor.
Once it started I started to ride the quad I was on, which was my dad’s friend’s quad and it was a kawasaki. When I was riding on it towards the hills near the cliff, which was 60 feet. I was riding towards the hill because my dad and my friend I met that year told me it was fun.`My friend was a kid I met when I was there, and my dad was packing so we can go. I looked both ways to make sure there were no dirtbikes passing by on the the dirtbike track and went across it and when I was going on the hills there was a root sticking out of the ground that I didn’t see, so my wheel tipped over and I fell down the cliff same with my quad. My quad got stuck in a tree, but I hit a tree and then halfway I hit the ground and then I slid down the cliff the rest of the way. It wasen’t a big drop, but it was like in between a big and small drop. I didn’t get any dirt in my mouth or face because my face was protected by my helmet and goggles. As I feel down the hill I thought to myself “I can’t believe I survived.”
I was missing one shoe and I climbed up the hill yelling for help. When I got to the top my friend saw me. The rest of the guys helped me up including my friend’s dad, uncle, and his family. When I got up and my dad heard that I went over the cliff so as soon as he heard that I went down the cliff he rushed over to the cliff as fast as he could to check on me.
He said “Are you ok? “
“Yeah I’m fine,” I said.
When I sat down to rest for a minute I realized that under my arm was a few scratches.
This life threatening event changed me because it was a very scary moment because now I know what is feels like. I learned that I was a lucky one when I went over that cliff. The reason why I was a lucky one because I could of died. That is why I was a lucky one. It was one of the scariest moment of my life. Now I know to be careful next time like watch where I was going.
