“Keegan we gotta go!” Riana exclaimed, “I have to text my boyfriend back.”

I grabbed my shoes, tied my laces, and ran after her. We walked out of the campground where we were staying and started walking down a dirt road. I knew these streets well; seeing as I came up to Irons two or three times a year in the summer to camp, go to the flea roast and ox market, or just to hangout with family.

“No service, up here there is a river and maybe I'll get some sort of connection.” Talking to herself she ran into the side of the road and stumbled. She laughed at herself and I couldn’t help but to laugh with her too.
As I helped her up, we were still laughing and we heard a ding.

She checked her phone and saw it was her boyfriend, “He didn't go to jail,” (as a joke) she screamed with excitement looking at me.

She texted him back and it didn’t send, after about a half an hour of her trying to send the message she just gave up. We were surrounded by beautiful nature and we both didn’t want technology to affect the good time we were having.

We started walking back and decided to take a trail that we thought took us back to the camp site. Well, I guess we thought wrong. “Is this the right trail?” I asked Riana unsurely.

“Ummmm, sure. Yeah it’s the right trail. I think…” she replied with an unsure tone as well.
As we walked on down the trail, we realized that we were going in the completely wrong direction, but we kept on walking having no clue where we were. Riana lost service, and her phone was about to die. There was no turning back, like there’s no turning back time.

We were surrounded by nature at it’s finest with its beautiful trees, it’s muddy path, the falling leafs, and the beautiful chirps of the birds. Once in awhile we would pause for a minute to listen to the water we could hear rushing down the stream; once we were close enough to the water we walked towards it and followed the river. We knew we had to follow it downstream because we walked south and the river flows north.

“I think we’re on the right path.” I said to Riana.

“I think so too.” she replied.
We followed the river for a couple more minutes and everything looked so familiar now.

“Up ahead! I see the landing for the kayakers that get out at the campsite.” I said with joy.

“Yeah that’s the campsite!” she said back at me.

We were both hot and sweating really bad that by the time we actually got back to the landing we just jumped in the river. My Grandma and Uncle Paul heard us and came rushing down asking us where we have been for the past two hours.

“We’ll explain after we’re done, we just need to cool off for a minute.” Riana said to my Grandma.

“Jump in! Come on!” I shouted to them.

Soon enough they both bolted into the river and we swam for about an hour.

As all of us were walking back to our tents we heard  our dog Frankie barking, as if we all have left him alone for days.

“We got lost in the woods, and Riana didn’t have service , and I’m pretty sure you didn’t either.” I explained to my grandma with a lazy, tired tone. “We took the wrong path and kept turning” I laughed while saying. From this moment on I will not go on paths that I don’t know where they lead me, or if they even end.
