Submerged Thoughts
When I first listened to the lyrics “I’ve been sitting at the bottom of a swimming pool / For a while now / Drowning my thoughts out with sounds” I couldn't help but think how profound it was.
It reminded me of times where I would go swimming and I would dunk my head underwater for seconds at a time because it's where I found peace. It's a place where the silence that surrounds you is not entirely quiet but everything else fades away because water rushing through your ears is loud enough to block everything out. Living in the moment is ethereal because the sound is simple enough to quiet the whisperings of the mind.
Listening to those lyrics, I knew it was impossible to sit at the bottom of a swimming pool because inevitably, a body rises since it is buoyant.
But what if, metaphorically, one was weighted down by all their struggles? Is it the world’s way of prescribing you peace or the world’s way of saying they hope death will find you as you drown?
