Students Should Have Less Homework
Imagine this: your child is in class taking a test your son/daughter forgot to study because of all the homework Your son/daughter was doing yesterday.He/She starts to panic he tells his best friend next to him/her “I forgot to study i don't want to get a bad grade on the test” Your son/daughter starts to stress out and panic some more.Your son/daughter was disappointed when he/she got a 6 out of 10 which is a D-.Your child talks to his/her best friend again “if i did not have so much homework i would have studied and could have got a better grade”.Have you ever had this happen to you.I think students should have less homework.
One reason students should have less homework is because too much homework can cause a lot of stress and it impacts sleep and freetime.”Denise Pope, a senior lecturer at the Stanford University School of Education and a co-author of a study published in the Journal of Experimental Education, has found that too much homework has negative effects on well-being and behavior. What's more, the negative effects can extend to students' lives outside of school, including family, friends, and other activities” (“Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids’ Health?” 2014.”When it comes to stress, 56 percent of the students considered homework a primary source. Forty-three percent viewed tests as a primary stressor, while 33 percent put the pressure to get good grades in that category. Less than 1 percent of the students said homework was not a stressor” (“Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids’ Health?” 2014).staying up and doing homework takes away students sleep which can make students tired and less focused.”Many students said their homework burden led to sleep deprivation and other health problems. The researchers asked students whether they experienced headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss, and stomach problems” (“Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids’ Health?”).Colleges are seeing a generation of students manifesting increased signs of depression, anxiety, perfectionism, and stress. The American Psychological Association found that 45 percent of teens are stressed by school pressures.(“Coping with school stress” 2005-
Another Reason students should have less homework because students work more that the recommended amount of time.”According to the study, more than two hours of homework a night may be counterproductive”(“Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids’ Health?” 2014).when students do homework they want to relax and do other things.”A Stanford researcher has found that students in high-achieving communities who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance, and alienation from society” (“Is Too Much Homework Bad for ---- Kids’ Health?” 2014).shouldn't students have less homework to spend time with family and friends.”The researchers also found that spending too much time on homework meant that students were not meeting their developmental needs or cultivating other critical life skills. Students were more likely to forgo activities, stop seeing friends or family, and not participate in hobbies. What’s more, many students felt forced or obligated to choose homework over developing other talents or skills” (“Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids’ Health?” 2014,).”Stress and anxiety — perhaps triggered by problems with peers, teachers or parents — can play a role in children's headaches. Children with depression may complain of headaches, particularly if they have trouble recognizing feelings of sadness and loneliness”.
(“symptoms and causes” 2016) It's not unusual for 30%-40% of students having 6 hours or less of sleep. If teachers tried to lessen the homework there would be less stress and anxiety from both the teacher and the students and more happier kids and teachers.
In Conclusion I think students should have less homework because it can interfere with sleep and freetime it can also interfere with your family and friends time which can cause conflicts between each other.Another thing is to much homework can cause stress and headaches. Headaches and stress can cause physical, emotional, and mental breakdowns.
