To anyone who has ever felt alone,

Hello, I am writing this letter with the hope that it might offer some comfort to you. To any of you that has ever felt completely and remotely alone. I want you to know that I understand. I am here. I am with you. And I want you to know that if you are reading this then you have survived all the tragedies and disasters and violence that have been thrown against you. You have survived, and if you have survived then you have gotten farther than many others have. It is easy to get caught up in the loneliness, of course it is. But when you do get caught up in it, I want you to remember this… there is always something better waiting for you. Please remember that. Remember that no matter how long and dark the night may seem, day will come. You have made it this far because you are destined for greatness. You are strong and you are smart and you are worth it. Don’t let anyone bring you down or burn you or shame you because you are different. I want you to remember that if you ever find yourself looking right in the eyes of Darkness and you find yourself drawn more and more to it, please remember to never go into it. Fight back. No matter how much it may hurt, never give in easily. You have magic inside you. Use it. The world is endless. Remember that where you are right now isn’t where you will stay. Aim to travel endlessly. There is a whole world waiting for you to mark your presence in it. There are so many places you will go and people who will change everything you believe. Just wait for it. I promise you it will be worth it. Live freely and without limits. You can do absolutely anything you set your mind to. You can bungee jump from the highest tower or scuba dive in the Mediterranean if that is what you wish for. Also, never cease to forget that while you may not be able to control every situation and its outcome and you may not be able to control if you get hurt in this world, you can control how you react to it and how you move past all the pain. I may not know you and you may not know me but if you are reading this then, just like me, you have felt pain and despair and true loneliness. But I hope you have also felt joy. And joy doesn’t have to come from the materiality of things; it can come from all the simplicity of beauty around us. There is beauty everywhere you go. There is beauty in you. I really hope you know that you are not alone. You can find comfort in places other than people. You don’t need people to have friends. You can find companionship in music and in dancing and in books and movies. If you are reading this right now and you are happy, then I wish with all of my heart that you will continue to be but if you are reading this and you are not happy, then I wish with all of my heart and soul that a day comes in which you realize you have finally found happiness. Lastly, I know life can be difficult. It can be messy and complicated and you never know what your luck will be in it but it is also beautiful. You are in this world and in this life because you are needed. In the entire world there is not one person like you. You are truly unique. And you matter. You matter to me and you matter to more people than you think. So remember what I told you. I am here and I am with you and I always will be.

Sincerely yours,
Another Lonely Soul

I was inspired to write this piece because I know how awful it feels to be lonely and be misunderstood and I wanted to offer some comfort to all the teenagers who feel like I do.
