Take a Seat
Plastic chairs are used in many different ways. For a student dreading the day ahead, a couple of hicks sitting around a camp fire, or even a young child who can’t sit still at a family gathering. Whatever the use, many people around the world are sitting on a plastic chair right now. Plastic chairs, uncomfortable, and for some, a way to get every strand of hair pulled out by the two bolts on the back rest. I sit down and after a half hour of sitting and listening to my teacher lecture on about something I don’t even care about, my butt starts to hurt without a cushion to sit on. After a day of school I get with of couple of friends and there it is again, around the outdoor table. I take a seat on the plastic chair and without even thinking about the previous 6 hours of sitting on one at school, I pull out my homework and start doing my work.
On the weekend I see the chairs everywhere. I went down by the river and a group of friends were sitting on them hanging around a bon fire, a mix of people sitting on tail gates, a fallen tree, and of course plastic chairs. People all around me sitting down, I guess we take for granite the use of a chair I see everyone hanging out laughing, one person laughed so hard he had fallen backwards, the flimsy chair couldn’t hold his laugh. I look the other direction and see a large man who I was surprised the little old chair could hold his weight.
After hours of laughter and excitement, I head to my grandmother’s house for our family dinner. I get there and all the chairs are made of what? You guessed it. Plastic. I see my young cousin sitting on one and the chair is way too big for a 3 year old. He stands up on the chair and the chair falls forward crashing to the ground. A loud scream and cry shriek, I look over at him and he’s on the ground, my aunt running to him. I knew that he was too young to be left alone. Maybe I should help them but I think I’ll just sit back and relax here in this little old plastic chair.
