When I was younger people would call me Tatiana and I always got annoyed and had to correct them. I always felt like they would say that name instead of my real name because it sounded better but not to me. I knew this kid who liked to bother me for fun by mistaking my name to make me mad by saying “Tina”. Or when I am telling someone my name on the internet they would say “That is ghetto”. But it is not and I am not ghetto at all. My middle name is unique and pretty, “Star”. My family calls me Star but at school and everyone else I am Tiana.
My name sounds like a guitar and looks like the colors, pink and brown. It makes me think of someone who has thick brown straight brown hair, but mine is curly. Its English meaning is “follower of Christ”, which is good for me because it sounds pure. In greek my name means “highest beauty” and “princess”. I did not like my name as much until I found that out. Honestly, I am very fond of Greek culture because I like how they believed in many different Gods like the God of the sky named Zeus, and Athena was goddess of wisdom and war. My favorite Disney movie is based off of Greek mythology Hercules.

There are many different people with the name Tiana except spelled differently like Teyanna, Tionna, T-i-a-n-n-a, etc. But mine is short and easy. When I was younger I used to hate my name. I always thought my name was weird and wanted something else like Jessica, Natasha, or Shannel. Overtime I learned to embrace it. My name is the sun setting at a small beach with warm waves crashing.

My parents surprisingly did not name me. My mom’s good friend named Sherly did for my first and middle. My older sister got named by my dad and also has the same same name as his first love, “Denise”. Then my brother got was named after my dad too which is the longer version of his name John, Johnathan. But I am kind of happy my mom did not name me because it could have been worse because my other sisters have terrible names. In my perspective their names are ghetto and weird, Kyesha, Lakeisha, and Tonette.

Overall I am proud to have the name that I do. It does not define who I am as a person yet it has a magical meaning. It taught me to appreciate it because if I was born in a new name I would still be the same person. It gave me confidence and style to be different from everybody else. My name is not Tatiana or Tina but Tiana.
