Since the start of the season, the Yankees have been on fire. This would not have happened without the requirements of Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Marcus Stroman. In the first ten games of the season they went 8-2 with the best record in the American League. Now, they are 34-17, and have the second best record in all of baseball behind the Philadelphia Phillies. Although the Yankees started off winning, captain Aaron Judge started off very slow. On May 4th, everything changed. In the seventh inning against the Detroit Tigers, Judge got a terrible strike three call. While walking back to the dugout he was arguing with the umpire, leading to getting kicked out of the game. Ever since the ejection, he has racked up 21 hits in 16 games, and is in third for homeruns with 14. This spark has brought the city back to life since last year was rough. Also, the Yankees pitchers have the lowest earned run average in the league. Even without Cy Young and ace, Gerrit Cole, they are still the best pitching staff in the league. Clay Holmes, the closer for the Yankees, has let up zero runs in his first 20 appearances. He has 13 saves already. Luis Gil has also stepped up big for the Yankees, stepping up in Gerrit Cole’s spot as a starter. He has not disappointed so far. He has started 10 games and has a earned run average of 2.39. That is around the 10th best in the league.

Fast forward a couple days later and the Yankees are still rolling. Aaron Judge is still hot and now is tied for the most homeruns for the season with 18. Anthony Volpe’s hitting streak ended on May 30, with 21 games having a hit. On the defensive side, Luis Gil has lowered his earned run average even lower to 1.99! That is currently the sixth best ERA in the league. The Yankees also have the lowest ERA as a team in the league at 2.77. ERA known as earned run average is “a statistic used to measure a pitcher's effectiveness, obtained by calculating the average number of earned runs scored against the pitcher in every nine innings pitched.” DJ LeMahieu is back for the Yankees starting at third base, and Jasson Dominguez is back in AAA on a rehab assignment after tearing his UCL and getting Tommy John surgery. The Yankees have the best record in the league and have all the momentum in the world. They just beat the Dodgers in the final game of the series which is a huge win against one of the best teams in the league. Hopefully they can keep this going.
