Ah, Boston! What isn’t there to like about this historical city? From the variety of notable educational institutions to the sight of a Dunkin Donuts on every corner. Boston is known for hosting the harshest winters and also having the most passionate sports fans. Whether you are Red Sox, Patriots or Celtics fan or one of all three of them, most Bostonians are known for their devotion and loyalty to these teams. Boston has a history of successful teams, such as the sixteen time champion Boston Celtics and the modern day football dynasty, the New England Patriots. However, let’s not forget the Boston Red Sox, who constantly make the headlines for their on-going rivalry with the New York Yankees.

Who can forget the year 2004, when the Boston Red Sox finally reversed the famous Bambino Curse by coming back from a 3-0 deficit and beating the infamous Yankees. They went on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. Also that same year, the Patriots won their third Super Bowl in the past four years. 2004 became special
and memorable for Bostonians. Besides the satisfaction they got after experiencing year-round success from their teams, they also enjoyed the celebrations that came from those successful wins.

Well, that was 2004, and now in 2007 the Boston teams have been making headlines all over the country. The only thing that could be said is that life is good these days if you're a Boston sports fan. This year has been unforgettable with all the acquisitions that the Boston teams have made. The New England Patriots have added all-star wide receiver Randy Moss to their roster. Receivers Wes Walker and Dante Stallworth and running back Sammy Morris were also added to the squad. If that wasn’t enough, the Patriots managed to remain with the same players including a contract extension for cornerback Asante Samuel. With such a star packed team, expectations are high and a reservation for the Pats in Miami for Super Bowl XLII is in a lot of Bostonians’ minds. Although the season started out with allegations of cheating, the Patriots showed their worth after the annihilation of the San Diego Chargers during week two. They proved that those Super Bowl rings were earned
fairly and, “tapes or no tapes”, they are an outstanding team that can withstand any challenge on their path.

Moving on to baseball, this season the Boston Red Sox have acquired former Cy Young award winner Eric Gagne, pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, lefty reliever Hideki Okajima, Julio Lugo and strong candidate for “Rookie of the Year”, Dustin Pedroia. The Red Sox have managed to stay on top of their division and for a huge portion of time during the season on top of the whole MLB. With this team full of talented and successful athletes the Sox hope to win their division and reserve a seat in the upcoming World Series in October.

Finally, let’s not forget the Boston Celtics, who have been very mediocre since their appearance in the Eastern Conference championship in 2001. However, this upcoming season is a whole new game for the Celtics, who have finally come out of their lair.The
acquisition of former MVP Kevin Garnett and three-point legend Ray Allen had changed the concept that many people held of the Celtics. Now the Celtics are no longer the “stepping mat” that many considered them to be. The Celtics are a team to watch out for in the NBA with their ultimate trio: Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Thy also have
been feeling the love everywhere, with twenty-seven of their games featured on national television and ticket sales rising to the roof.

So can Bostonians and the Boston teams rekindle the celebrations? No one
knows for sure, but time will only tell how our star-packed teams will perform. Can we regain the title of “Best Sports City” that we held in 2001 and 2004? Seeing how our teams are performing so far we can all assume that we are strong candidates for the title. We also can’t forget about the talented New England Revolution who have been atop the
MLS over the past few years, or the Boston College Eagles who were recently ranked 14th nationwide. We host a world-renown Marathon and the famous Head of the Charles Regatta. There is so much going on in Boston in a twelve month period that, like most of North America, we nearly even missed the idle Bruins of the NHL. It really is a great
time to be in Boston, a city that has become a “sports center” and has given its fans that feeling of euphoria.
