Pushing Yourself

Sports are everything. If I did not have sports in life, I would not have learned life skills I know now. From playing sports I have learned obedience, time management, teamwork, and discipline. Sports teach you things that nothing else can, practice. You have to give your 100% effort if you want to be the best at what you do. Just because you start or you play the most at whatever sport you do doesn’t make you good. You have to be able to dig deep inside yourself and excel in whatever you do and push yourself farther than anyone else. You can not achieve greatness from nothing. My favorite quote from Michael Jordan states what I attempt to live by, “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” This quote is pretty explicit about what it means to me, we learn and improve from our mistakes. I think we can all live by this quote whether you’re an athlete or not.

I hope people get from this that sports is about more than just competing.
