Lorenzo De Medici Restaurant Review
Without a doubt, after a long day of walking the amazing city of Florence, you will be starving. Lorence De Medici is a wonderful restaurant to visit to fulfill your need for food and history and to get some authentic Italian food. When you first walk down the very narrow street that leads to the restaurant, it can seem a little unsafe, due to the very small area and little lighting surrounding the building, leading you to question whether or not eating at this restaurant is a good idea, but trust me, it will be an experience of a lifetime.
When you first walk into the restaurant, you are greeted by the friendliest staff, whom all greet you with a “Ciao e benvenuto!” They walk you into one of four dining areas showing you all around the restaurant. The atmosphere is amazing, the staff was beaming with excitement to be part of your Italian experience. All around you are surrounded by amazing Italian artwork and little pieces of their history. The restaurant does a fantastic job accommodating for the dark history of the Medici family, the red and brown walls show the heartbreak, the blood spilled, the dark times of renaissance Italy, but the lighting shows the hope and the good times, making for a perfect Medici
They have water and fresh bread already waiting for you when you get there. Which was especially beneficial to me and my group because we were starving. The well lit dining area reminded me of how my family surrounds our kitchen with lights during christmas, it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling, a feeling of happiness.
Being Italian myself, I had high standards for the food. My grandmother has always taught me how to be able to taste for the right amount of every spice. When they brought out the spaghetti I was fully ready to put my Italian tasting skills to the test, and I was greatly pleased with the service, everything about their pasta was amazing—not a little bit too much or too little of any spice. I would even say it was better than my grandma's spaghetti, but don't tell her I said that.
I ordered the“Spaghetti Al Pomodoro”-- a generous portion for a reasonable $7. They can be a little pricey however with their meats and seafood. I would definitely recommend the “Spaghetti Al Pomodoro” for any new visitor because you can never go wrong with spaghetti, especially in Italy. As I stated earlier in the review it has just the perfect amount of every spice, especially for people who like a little kick to their food. For those who do not have a taste for spaghetti, they have many different options from Lasagna to seafood, as well as very delicious desserts.
By far the most exciting moment for me at this restaurant was to walk out onto the narrow streets and to see the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, it was absolutely breathtaking with the sun just perfectly shining upon it, there were no clouds in the sky making for perfectly visible sunset just above the cathedral. It made the whole mood of the restaurant so much better especially for a restaurant named after the guy who had one of his darkest moments, the Pazzi Conspiracy, inside that very cathedral.
Overall, if you ever get the great pleasure of traveling to Florence, Italy, I would definitely recommend you check out the Lorenzo De Medici Restaurant. Compared to other restaurants, this one is unique to the area, not just Italy.
