Treasure
Night or day, rain or shine, this is one of my favorite places in Waukesha County. There are picnic tables and benches for sitting, garbage cans, and even a small shelter with restrooms. Depending on the time the of year, geese and ducks also enjoy this space.
This treasure is a fantastic little park hidden just off the main road in Menomonee Falls. Beautifully situated along the banks of the Menomonee River is Lime Kiln Park. The park has original falls from the Menomonee River, remains of the historic Lime Kilns on the west, and original Limestone Quarry on the east. The area reminds people of the early Menomonee Falls.
Just north of the upper manmade falls, you can find picnic spots, public courtyard, and a gazebo. Sometimes, after the sun has set, you can look south off the bridge on Roosevelt Drive and see the beauty downstream the river and throughout Menomonee Falls. The lights of the lampposts dance on the water and pulls your gaze in farther.
Everytime I come here, I stop for dinner at Pop’s Custard, then walk to the park from Pop’s. When I come here I feel not only free from the world, but also safe; and that is why Lime Kiln Park is a treasure of Waukesha County.
