My own experience is that once a story has been written, one has to cross out the beginning and the end. It is there that we authors do most of our lying.<br /> - Anton Chekhov

Summary:

The world had been subjected to the one thing that the United States has always hated, the One Child Policy. With overpopulation greatly reducing the Earth's resources even the United States must adopt this policy. No one saw it coming, but after the One Child Policy, no one also expected the seconds to live. Especially not the kid that changes everything.
Riker Stewart knows nothing of his past as a second. Not of the man that saved his life as a baby second or of the destiny that will be stowed upon him. His life must change in order for the seconds to finally break free from slavery and genocide. This is his story, the story of millions of the silhouettes that have been pushed to the brink of starvation. The story that has yet to be told.
