I have always loved mystery so I thought it would be fun to try and create my own.

The author's comments:

This is meant to be a scripts

Characters:

Isabella - High school girl, who loves hanging out with her senior friends, but values her school work

Brooklyn - High school girl who is best friends with Isabella but doesn’t like school

Will - High school boy who is always up to have fun with his friends

Noah - High school boy who loves scary movies, and always tries to make his hangouts with his friends more interesting

SCENE ONE

Isabella and Brooklyn are sitting in their last class of the day as their teacher hands back their final quarterlies

ISABELLA

How do you think you did?

BROOKLYN

I don’t know, I always think I know the material well, and then I always end up getting a bad grade on these tests.

ISABELLA

I know right! I absolutely hate quarterlies though, I do well on every test I take except for these ones. It always drops my grades down so much!

(their teacher hands them both back their tests)

BROOKLYN

I don’t even want to look at these.

ISABELLA

Me either. Let's just get it over with.

(isabella and brooklyn look at their tests at the same time)

BROOKLYN

You have got to be kidding me.

ISABELLA

What did you get?

BROOKLYN

I got a 73! My parents are actually going to kill me.

ISABELLA

No they won't, at least it's better than your last one.

BROOKLYN

It still sucks. What about you? What did you get?

ISABELLA

I got a 76.

BROOKLYN

You're like the smartest kid in our class! That just proves that these quartiles are too hard! Like, give us a break. I'm simply just going to drop out of this class.

ISABELLA

You better not, who am I supposed to talk to if you're gone?

BROOKLYN

(sarcastically)

Then let's drop out together! Easy peasy.

ISABELLA

I wish.

(the bell rings and isabella and brooklyn head to the library where the met noah and will everyday after school)

SCENE TWO

(isabella and brooklyn sit down in the library waiting for their friends)

BROOKLYN

How do you think Will and Noah did on the tests?

ISABELLA

Hopefully better than us.

BROOKLYN

I have faith in Will, but I’m not so sure about Noah.

ISABELLA

Oh yeah, there is no way we did worse than Noah.

(noah and will walk into the library and sit next to their friends)

Noah

I’m officially dropping out of high school.

BROOKLYN

Way ahead of you there.

WILL

Guys, at least we are all done with quarterlies! We don’t have to do another one ever again!

ISABELLA

You're being too positive for my liking right now Will. I’m guessing you did well on the test?

WILL

Oh no, I absolutely failed that test. I got a solid 66.

Noah

The only thing I put right on my test was my name and the date.

BROOKLYN

You’re joking right?

NOAH

Kind of. I got about 5 questions right out of the 30 sooooooo…

ISABELLA

I just hate how much it brings our grades down. I had a 94 in one of my classes and now I have like a B in that class after the quarterly.

BROOKLYN

Pretty sure my highest grade is a B at this point.

WILL

I think mine is too, at least in all my core classes.

NOAH

All I’m passing right now is lunch and gym.

ISABELLA

Girl, I don’t think lunch really counts as a class.

BROOKLYN

If it was, I would have no less than a 100%.

ISABELLA

I’m still so pissed about how much my grades have been brought down this entire year all because of these stupid tests.

WILL

I have a great idea!

ISABELLA

What’s your great idea?

WILL

What if… now just hear me out. What if we change our grades?

BROOKLYN

What do you mean by “change our grades”?

WILL

Like, what if we broke into the school later tonight and changed our grades from the school computer in the principal's office.

ISABELLA

That sounds like it's straight out of a Disney channel show.

NOAH

I mean, I’m up for it.

BROOKLYN

Really guys? This is stupid. And there is no way that this could ever work.

ISABELLA

Yeah, do you guys know how much trouble we would get in if we get caught.

WILL

We won’t get caught!

ISABELLA

How?

WILL

If there is one thing I like about this old stupid school, it's that they still haven’t installed security cameras.

NOAH

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I mean, it could work guys.

ISABELLA

How would we even get into the school?

BROOKLYN

One of us could leave one of the windows unlocked before we leave here and then we can climb through later tonight.

ISABELLA

Wait, Brooklyn, you really think this is a good idea?

BROOKLYN

Yes and no.

ISABELLA

What does that mean?

BROOKLYN

I just hate how hard I try in school and then these stupid tests just bring my grade down a ton. My parents are always so mad at me and I think we all deserve better. Don’t you?

ISABELLA

I mean, I guess so.

WILL

You should honestly be the most mad out of all of us.  You try the hardest and this is all you're getting in return.

NOAH

I agree, I mean, it’s not like we are gonna be at the school much longer. This could be like our final adventure together before we all go off to college.

BROOKLYN

C’mon, let's just have a little bit of fun.

(everyone looks at isabella as she thinks long and hard)

ISABELLA

Fine, let's do it.

WILL

Yes! Don’t worry, this is gonna be so much fun.

ISABELLA

It better be.

SCENE THREE

(The sun has completely set as Isabella and Brooklyn wait for Will and Noah to arrive)

ISABELLA

Where on earth are they?

BROOKLYN

How should I know?

ISABELLA

Should we call them? What if they don’t show up?

BROOKLYN

You’re getting way too worked up about this. You know that they have never once been on time to something.

(brooklyn picks up her phone to call will)

ISABELLA

If they don’t answer I’m gonna lose my mind.

(will answers the phone)

WILL

Hello?

BROOKLYN

Where are you guys?

WILL

Turn around.

(brooklyn and isabella turn around)

NOAH

Boo!

ISABELLA

Don’t scare us like that you idiots!

NOAH

Anyways… are you guys ready?!?!

ISABELLA

I don’t know guys, this is really starting to feel like a bad idea.

BROOKLYN

It’s fine, we are going to be just fine.

ISABELLA

What if we get caught?

BROOKLYN

It’s not like anyone else is here.

WILL

Lets just hope no one else is here right now.

ISABELLA

Huh? What are you talking about?

NOAH

No, I agree with Will. This could honestly make for a great scary movie. Four friends, in a dark empty school.  They think they are alone until… they realize they’re not!

BROOKLYN

Are you guys trying to scare Isabella more?

NOAH

Always. Anyway, tonight is gonna be so fun! I bought stuff that we can use to trash the school!

ISABELLA

We aren’t going to trash the school. We are just going to sneak in, change our grades, and leave.

NOAH

Ugh, you guys are boring! How are we even going to get in there again?

BROOKLYN

We left one of the windows unlocked earlier today so that we could sneak in, remember.

NOAH

Oh right. So are we planning on sneaking in tonight, or are we just gonna stand here in the dark the entire night?

WILL

Agreed, I hate the dark so let's go in now please

BROOKLYN

Awwww, is little Will scared?

WILL

No, but let's just go please.

ISABELLA

What a big baby, you’re a senior in high school and you’re still afraid of the dark?

WILL

Hey now, you’re the one that’s scared of this entire plan.

ISABELLA

That's because it's stupid!

NOAH

Ladies, ladies, ladies, can we all please just shut up?

(they all go to the unlocked window and climb in one by one)

SCENE FOUR

(everyone begins to walk around the empty school after they all climb through the window)

NOAH

Soooooo, before we go change our grades, are you guys sure you don’t want to trash the school? Even a little bit?

 ISABELLA

Forget about trashing the school! We are not doing it!

NOAH

Jeez, someone is fussy tonight. No need to hate on my attempt to try and make this night actually interesting.

ISABELLA

Shut up Noah.

NOAH

Guys, this is so boring. We can’t even get food from the caf, I don’t like being in school any longer than I need to be.

BROOKLYN

You and I both, but we just need to get into the Principal's office and change our grades really quick, then we are out

WILL

Wait, how are we going to get into the office? It’s probably locked right?

BROOKLYN

Yes, but thankfully I learned how to unlock a lock just with a bobby pin.

ISABELLA

You guys seriously need to stop watching mystery movies.

WILL

How about we start looking for a way to turn these lights on so we can actually see what we are doing?

(everyone starts walking around the school trying to find a light switch)

WILL

Hey guys, I think I found something.

BROOKLYN

Please tell me it's a light switch.

WILL

No. . . but there is a door here that I have never seen before.

(everyone walks over to where will is to see what door he is talking about)

Have you guys ever seen this before?

NOAH

No, but let's definitely go in!

ISABELLA

(sarcastically laughs)

Ha! You’re funny. Absolutely not.

NOAH

C’mon, you're such a baby!

ISABELLA

I’m not! You guys are just stupid!

WILL

No we aren’t!

ISABELLA

You guys literally want to go down into this dark creepy basement where one of us will probably end up getting murdered.

BROOKLYN

Calm down, nobody’s gonna get murdered, you're just being paranoid.

ISABELLA

No, I’m just being realistic. Can’t we just change our grades and go please?!

NOAH

After we check out this basement!

WILL

Huh, that's weird, there is no door handle on the other side.

ISABELLA

(sarcastically)

Oh no, that’s so disappointing. I guess I’ll just have to stay out here and hold the door so you guys don’t get locked in there.

NOAH

Nice try.

WILL

Yeah you’re coming with us.

(everybody walks around the dark basement and will puts a door stop that he found in the door to keep if from shutting on them)

SCENE FIVE

BROOKLYN

I can’t see anything down here guys, this feels kinda pointless.

ISABELLA

Yeah, I agree, let's leave!

WILL

I am kinda starting to get creeped out.

(suddenly there is a loud noise that makes everyone jump)

ISABELLA

No, absolutely not! We are gonna die! What was that?

BROOKLYN

I have no idea but I definitely think we should get out of here.

WILL

Agreed.

(they all run over to the door to see that it is now closed)

BROOKLYN

Will?

WILL

What?

BROOKLYN

I thought you put a door stop in here to keep us from getting trapped in here!

WILL

I did!

ISABELLA

Well it's not here anymore!

WILL

How is that possible?

ISABELLA

It could have slipped out cause this door is heavy I guess. But how are we supposed to get out of here? I still can’t see anything!

BROOKLYN

I know I know, everyone turn your phone flashlights on! Quick!

(everyone turns on their phone flashlights and they scan the room with their bright lights)

WILL

Wait, where is Noah?

BROOKLYN

I don’t know! Noah? Where are you?

ISABELLA

Noah!

(they all start to search the creepy basement together in fear)

WILL

Oh this isn’t good at all.

ISABELLA

How are we supposed to get out of here now! We can’t call an adult to come help us.

WILL

Why not?

ISABELLA

Because we broke into the school genius!

WILL

Ok, ok. No need to yell.

ISABELLA

I’m sorry, I just don’t know what we are supposed to do now. Like, we are stuck in this desolate basement that nobody probably even knows about, and Noah is missing!

BROOKLYN

Isabella, calm down. Has it not occurred to you that Noah is probably just trying to prank us?

ISABELLA

Why would he be trying to prank us?

BROOKLYN

I mean, Noah did keep on trying to make this night “more interesting”. Doesn’t this seem like him trying to turn this night into his own little fun game.

WILL

It does sound like a thing Noah would do

ISABELLA

Ok… even if that’s true, that doesn’t change the fact that we are stuck here.

BROOKLYN

Just call Noah.  Tell him that this isn’t funny and you want him to open the door now.

WILL

I’ll call him.

(will starts to call noah)

ISABELLA

Why isn’t he picking up?

BROOKLYN

Wait, do you guys hear that?

(they start to hear a phone ring from somewhere in the basement. They all look at each other confused and before they begin to start walking around the basement to try and find noah)

ISABELLA

How is his phone down here if he is supposed to be outside the basement door Brooklyn?

BROOKLYN

How should I know?

(They finally find noah’s phone, but instead of finding noah with it, they find a huge chalkboard)

WILL

What is this?

ISABELLA

I couldn’t tell ya.

BROOKLYN

I could have sworn this wasn’t here before.

WILL

It would have to have been, there is no other way for it to have gotten down here.

ISABELLA

Guys, I’m really freaking out over here, I can’t be here anymore! I want to go home!

BROOKLYN

Me too! Where is Noah though? Should we just keep searching the basement?

WILL

I guess so. Should we split up, we can get more done that way right?

ISABELLA

When has that ever been a good idea in any scary movie?

BROOKLYN

We aren’t in one Isabella. Plus, there is nobody else down here.

ISABELLA

Famous last words Brooklyn. All I’m saying is the last time we split up, we lost Noah.

WIlL

Ok, fine. Then we will all look for him together.

ISABELLA

I’m this close to calling my parents to come pick me up.

BROOKLYN

My parents would kill me if they knew about me doing this.

ISABELLA

Mine too but I would much rather have them kill me than die right here in this creepy basement.

WILL

We aren’t going to die!

(isabella stands next to the chalkboard and realizes that there is writing on the other side of the board. she flips over the chalkboard and they all stare at it in silence.)

ISABELLA

W..what on earth?

(The chalkboard reads their names…

Isabella

Brooklyn

Will

Noah

The only difference is, noah's name is crossed off.)

BROOKLYN

Why is Noah's name crossed off?

ISABELLA

This is getting too freaky now.

(Below their names the board says in all caps, YOU SHOULD HAVE STAYED HOME TONIGHT)
