First Case of Duolingo Owl Attacking User
Earlier this month duolingo, a language learning app, had been under fire for its aggressive messages to its users.
Some of the messages included ,“It's time for your Spanish lesson. Take it now and your family is safe.” And “You didn't take your French lesson, I guess your mom doesn't get let out.”
These threats started as just messages sent to their users. But now it appears that the mascot of the app is showing up outside peoples houses. The first report was called into 911 Monday night. The call goes as the following:
“911 what's your emergency?”
“There is someone standing outside my house.
“Can you identify any features of the person?”
“It looks like the owl thing from duolingo.”
“Are you sure that's what you're seeing ma'am?”
“Yes.”
“Okay ma'am an officer is on route to your location.”
Upon further investigation, it was found that it was the duolingo owl. Authorities have arrested him, and he is currently in custody. He is expected to be released on Saturday. Authorities are telling people to make sure they do their lessons to avoid another situation like this, but if you can't to deactivate your phone, or fake your own death. Officers are also encouraging users of the app to make sure there doors are locked, and make sure your windows are closed.
