&quot; We are born with two incurable diseases -- life, from which we die; and hope, which says maybe death isn&rsquo;t the end.&quot;<br /> - Andrew Greeley

We will explain away
tools of mushroom clouds and fatal vapor;
tools that would paint the world over
in concrete, that would turn rainbows
into the black holes
of our enemies' homes
(whose enemies? what have they done
that I should hate them? who decides
who is to live and who is to die?).
We whitewash these
Wipe-outs Of Mass Humanity
and write in their place
"For our defense!"
"War for peace!"
"Boost our economy!"

and
"We must civilize
these savages!"

No one reads the fine print
hidden below the glory and honor and
so much bloody money.
No one notices the side effects:
May prove fatal to thousands-millions (innocents, soldiers, men, women, and children are all at risk); May cause generations of birth defects; May create carcinogens out of crops; May irrevocably destroy the innocence that keeps the world from mass suicide; May suddenly create broken homes from happy ones in the time it takes to listen to a phone call.
If you notice any of these symptoms, please organize a protest to notify your local or federal government.

Where is our Woodstock?
Where are our protests,
our leaders, our writers
and singers and shakers?
Where is our Catch-22,
our Lennon, our Kent State students?
We so easily divide along lines of
Christian, atheist,
PETA, straightedge,
Democrat, Republican,
and we will argue
to the end about such trivialities,
but we refuse
to think about the holes in the world
where people are lost
and never found again.
We will not lead,
we will not come together
because we, too,
must battle
our hatred.

The author's comments:
Sorry if this one's sort of long. I just...wrote. I've been thinking about the people who came before me, the "hippies" and the protesters, kids my age who did things because they believed in it. We don't do that now. We don't have protests or rallies or sit-ins. That's for old people.
Anyway, check out this amazingly well-written article that was published in the Teen Ink mag. The title is "Our Generation's Woodstock." http://teenink.com/opinion/pop_culture_trends/article/133523/Our-Generation39s-Woodstock/

we find a place were no one will call the cops on us sum desert or watever. get a bunch of amps, barrow them from people, ask around for peoples favorite music artists, look them up on myspace facebook, ect. send them a message to see if their down to play for free for a whole week end, we dnt need a stage set up but if we can find some one who can make that happen then alright, we get people to donate food and drinks or tell people to bring there own to share with everyone spred the word and there u go Woodstock numero 3 number two was a fail and if this goes down i hope it aint.

I'm glad it touched you so deeply.

How should we do it, do you think?

What should we tell them first, and how do we make them listen?

this hit me deep, like right there in my heart, this is amazing totally insane yet this is the first sane thing i have heard in a very long time.

we sould stand up for what we believe in, stick it to the man and bring down the systems that make us one of the ones wearing the ties,

coruption is he laungauge of politics and laws.

raise your voice put your fists in the air and tell them exactly what it is that gonna make the world better

peace and love, not war and hate

thats whats its all about.
