The sun shines on a bright Tuesday in November. I have a decision to make today. One that could possibly shape the future of my nation. Today and today only, I have the power to make a change in my country. But, I don’t have to, there is no written rule that says I must make this decision. 

Sure my decision may be able to make a great change, but can it really? Think about it, just a simple slip of paper on a journey. A journey through millions of other slips of paper. A journey through complicated confusing rules that make it valid. All for what? To be added to a larger number? The probability of my decision actually meaning something, seem slim to none, so why even do it? What would be the point of doing nothing?

My whole life I’ve been told things like “your decision is important” or “you can make a big change with your decision”, it all seems like one big lie now that I am of age. The reality of it is, my decision really doesn’t matter. My decision is just a recommendation to other people, of what their decision should be. They don’t have to listen to me, they are capable of making the decision themselves. To them, I am just an insignificant number. A number that is supposed to be part of a bigger number that doesn’t even matter. 

For years, I’ve been lied to. By officials and the media, saying that my decision is important, and now I’ve finally realized, it’s not. And that’s ok. I have the right as an American citizen not to decide. I have the freedom to do what I want with my words and decisions. So yes, my decision doesn’t mean much to me. But that’s the choice I chose to make, and no one can force me to do otherwise.
