Looks over Personality, and How the Media Approves
I constantly get told that I’m not embracing my natural body shape. How I’m a horrible person, because other girls don’t have what I have, and I shouldn’t be hiding it like I’m an embarrassment. In “The Beauty and the Beast”, one of the villagers remarks, “Such looks shouldn’t have been wasted on her.” (It’s from the book if you weren’t aware.)
I, unfortunately, have what’s known as the ‘Pixar Mom Bod’, don’t look it up, trust me. With that, it’s ungodly annoying to be presented with a lose-lose situation. Either I can wear what people want me to wear, and have people comment on how good my sex life must be. (BTW, I’m agamous, so this just makes me want to slap people.) OR I can wear fun baggy clothing with cool amazing things called pockets, but get ridiculed because I don’t love my body enough.
When I go to stores these days and enter the women’s sections, it’s just gross. There isn’t a selection of clothing that doesn’t show the stomach, breast, or shoulder. It just doesn’t even try to look appealing to some people who have issues with that kinda thing. I, along with several friends, have to go into the men’s section just to get clothing that for one thing, looks cool, and another thing is that I don’t have a gaping hole between my breasts because clothing designers are flipping weird.
When you look online, you see disgusting advertisements showing anime women with out-of-whack proportions, WORSE than the Pixar Moms. Much worse. If you know what I mean, you know what I mean. It aggravates me that social media has come to highlight those parts of a woman to be the most beautiful, or most sexy parts. It’s also annoying to see men go online and brag about having a woman with stunning features. Don’t get me wrong, brag all you want about your partner, but beauty isn’t the best feature in my opinion.
Being intelligent is something that seems only to fade as time goes on. You may be top of your class, but screw that if you don’t have a bust or bum the size of an inflatable beach ball. People are losing themselves as the years go on, wanting only to appeal to others, wanting likes and hearts from people that they don't even know. The media is highlighting appearance over a person’s personality, and it’s only going to get worse if we don’t stop it now.
