The Importance of Homework
Some people might hate the idea of homework because it is time-consuming. Others might think that homework is unnecessary because all of the learning is done in the classroom. I disagree with both of these opinions. I think that homework is an important factor in a student’s education.
One reason why homework is important because it helps you understand learned in class. When I was struggling with solving two-sided equations, I was given homework. When I came back to school the next day, I was able to solve two-sided equations more easily and more quickly. Duke University did a study that shows that homework helps out most students. The study shows that homework is useful because it helps the teacher know what their students are struggling with.
Another reason why homework is important because it helps students get better grades in tests and exams. Harris Cooper, a psychology professor, found a strong and positive correlation between homework and student achievement for students in seventh through twelfth grade. The studies show that students who do homework do better in school. Oxford University found out that high school students who do about two hours of homework are more likely to do better at school.
The last reason why homework is important because it prepares students for the real world. Homework is teaching me how to retain information and punctuality. Homework is teaching me how to retain information through repetition. Homework is teaching me punctuality by having a due date. The University of Illinois says that students who do homework usually have better study habits.
Homework is an essential part of school. Homework helps students better understand the concepts they learn in class, helps students get better grades, and it prepares students for the real world. To all those people who are against homework, remember that it does have a lot of positive effects.
