Classic Modernism
China sang with the sounds of silver,
Spun together like a prophetic reading of Delphi –
The seer with the martyred salver,
Blinking gems of the immortal why.
Grecian flames dance upon the eternal Apollo,
Temples adorned with thoughts of centralism –
We are but the center of the earth, true and hollow!
Our hearts our vain, but plagued with altruism.
Soothsayer whispers into the wind of glass globes,
Shining and dining on the pomposity
Of verve, grasping the edges of priestly robes
And holding rightful the hand of the city.
Universal, we are but our own –
Quivering and alone.
