The Angel's Staircase
The angels sweep the staircase
Of shallowness and remorse
And as I walk down those steps
It's them I pass
Yet such a lonely place;
For they look right through
From one to the next
With empty pity in their eyes
A dull film set to rest
As if they stayed this way forever;
And with each step I counted
The angels life less bodies
The farther I go
The more haunting they become in this endless line
But to stop is like a pause in time
So it's going on that is my only choice;
At the bottom the way is clear
A barren abyss of darkness here
To step left or right
Makes no difference to me
So now I too stand lifeless
An angel to be.
