War Against Nature
When the sun goes down,
How do the plants survive the cold?
How do animals survive the danger?
How do we survive the loneliness?
We do it because we know
That no matter how good
Or how bad the day was,
The Earth still rotates,
And the Sun will come up again the next day.
What is war?
It is a result of taking something for granted.
We fight when something is bothering us,
Or when something seems wrong.
Unfortunately, there’s always a winner.
Climate control is a result of our own irritation,
And pollution is a result of our ignorance towards the planet.
We are taking our existence for granted.
We are waging war against the Earth and the Sun.
If we win, are we really the winners?
Will the Earth still rotate?
Will the sun come up again the next day?
However, we know that war is reversible, yet
War does not usually reverse on its own.
We are polluting the Earth, destroying its surfaces
And ruining its atmosphere.
As a result,
Animals and plants are dying,
Water and food are becoming poison,
And the climate is wildly changing.
The Earth is trying to defend its existence,
If we listen closely.
War can end in fair agreement,
Only if both sides realize so.
Will you be the one to make the change?
Will you go out and inspire
To make things right for everyone?
Sure, we can handle the loneliness,
Plants can handle the cold,
Animals can survive the danger.
Let us be the ones to make sure
The Earth still rotates,
And the Sun will come up again the next day.

I wrote this poem one day after reading up on current climate change issues during and after biology. I was frightened when I saw how climate change is becoming an increasingly bad influence on the environment and I was quickly surprised to find out that not very many people seemed to care. To try and raise awareness about this issue, I wrote this poem and shared it with some of my family and friends.
