His Mutating Heart
If I ask him what true love is
his thoughts doubtlessly dance
to the love from another.
If I ask him about heartbreak
he would think of her.
But I know,
his first heartbreak.
was from no one,
but himself
well before he placed his heart
in the rough hands of another.
his first heartbreak:
The endless cruel words he fed himself
The countless lies, he told his inner self-conscious,
The innumerable days that he had suppressed the intake of food
just for the sake of being “perfect”.
every word,
every lie,
every day on an empty stomach,
those thoughts,
slowly becoming a deadly virus,
a virus that makes the body weak,
like a cell breaking from a tumor,
slowly spreading through the bloodstream.
a full head of hair becomes shiny armour,
healthy lips become pale purple prunes.
smiles become frowns,
polos and pattern shorts become hospital gowns.
his first heartbreak
was from no other than the deadly thoughts
that ran through his head.
true love,
was never meant to be with anyone else
but himself.

A lot of people don't realize that the very first heartbreak we all had was from no one but ourselves. All of the endless negative thoughts we gave ourselves broke us.
