The Hidden Gem
Hidden Gem
“Get off those phones,” Gramps said to my brother and me.
bored in the old creaking wooden cabin.
Lethargically we get off the couch to slip on our shoes.
As the door squeaks open Gramps yells:
“Search for the hidden gem!”
Puzzled, we take the advice.
Wondering where to start,
I say “Let's start in the forest!”
My brother replies. “Okay, but we can’t get lost.”
A white-spotted doe walks out from a tree.
“Let's chase it to find the gem.”
Running rapidly through thick brush, we suddenly stop.
The doe brought us to stunning, sensational scenery.
“We found it!” I cheer to my brother.
The Hidden Gem.
Momentum-filled water completes our view.
Crashing into uneven rocks changing its path,
the mist surrounds the air around me.
Sounds of thunderous water races down the slope.
Tall towering thin trees tip over the trench.
“I wonder why they grow so slanted,” my brother says.
“The soil was loosened by rushing water.”
Fog rolls along the mossy floor like dropped marbles,
continuous water falling off each shelf.
We take a deep breath. It was like nothing we’ve felt before.
When admiring it I had a realization.
“We’ve been searching for this hidden gem,
meanwhile the gem was around us the entire time.”
“What do you mean?” my brother asks.
“All nature is beautiful when preserved. ”We fade into silence admiring the beauty of
The Hidden Gem.
