Where Am I From...?
I am from the innocence of childhood;
Long days of not having a care in the world.
Of playing made-up games with neighbors
To the welcoming kitchen of my grandmother,
And the words of wisdom that were spoken.
But I am also from pain.
From the hell of slamming doors and shouted insults
To the despair of divorce, but on to the happiness that time affords.
Today, I am from the people.
I am of friends and family and strangers.
Of the people who live, laugh, and love with me
And those who I don’t know, but still affect me by their actions.
But, in the end,
I am from Me.
