Rain
I’ve always loved rain
The pitter-patter upon the rooftop
The melted world it creates
Behind the windowpane
The cool, wetness upon skin
Making everything so slick
So slippery
Refreshment for the parched plants
Cleansing for my soul
I used to dance in the rain
Twirling, spinning
Stretching my arms heavenward
Letting the water pour down upon me
Drenching me from head to toe
My clothes and hair so saturated
So heavy
But my soul so light
So alive, so satisfied
How I long for one more dance
A chance
To laugh, to scream
To walk through its muddy puddles
Feeling the mushy earth beneath my bare feet
At first a few cool drops
Then harder, faster
Until all of heaven is pouring down on me
Washing me clean
Freeing me
