I Watched That Boy Become A Man
With my head laying on your chest
I can hear your heart beat
10 times faster than it should be
And we haven’t known each other long
Even though it seems like it’s been our whole lives
And I don’t know how this works,
You lean in but I turn away
Never knowing what to say
My first date was with a boy
It was with him the first time I talked on the phone for hours
The first time I met a boy’s parents
And with him was my first kiss
I gave him everything I had, lots of firsts
And today for the first time I’ll walk down the aisle
Holding that same boy’s hand
Only I watched that boy become a man
We’ve lived together
And we’ve lived miles apart
But we’ve known each other for what seems like forever
Even though sometimes we part
We find our way back
There’s no question about it
And all of my friends they just don’t understand
How you’ve kept me in one place
But it’s that smile on your face
I just can’t get enough
When you stroke my hair
All my worries disappear
And people in our lives will come and go
We’re so young there’s so much we don’t know
One thing that is for sure
I can always depend that you’ll be there
Through the good and the bad
And times when you don’t know what to say
Just take me in your arms and don’t ever let go
Cause baby that’s where I want to stay
One day my daughter will ask
Just like I asked my mother a while back
When I had my first kiss
If my first love was a fairy tale
And I’ll tell her for sure it didn’t fail
Or else she wouldn’t be sitting here now
Cause my whole life I’ve only loved one boy
So long ago that love began
And I was lucky enough to be by his side
When that boy became a man
