Where I'm From
From Radio Flyer wagons and Schwinn bicycles.
I am from the circle driveway full of busy children playing.
I am from the vast pine trees overtaking the front yard,
The buzzing bees surrounding the sweet nectar of flowers
I am from Christmas dinners and blonde hair, from Bill and Meinzer and Meissner.
I am from my moms’ homemade meals and bizarre family vacations.
From “make your bed” and “life’s not fair.”
I am from weekly Sunday school classes and upright church pews.
I’m from Wisconsin and German roots, cheesy potatoes and green bean casserole.
From losing my dog on a cold, snowy night and the frequent doubts I have a twin.
I am from the shelves full of memories; some old and some new.
From the dusty pictures of growing up that shaped who I am today.
