UnQuiet Mind
UnQuiet Mind
Louder than silence, quieter than screams,
Bigger than tiny, smaller than dreams,
More suffocating than breath, darker than blind,
Danger signs of an unquiet mind.
Always crowded but nothing’s there,
Spotless and shining but forever smeared,
Tightly stitched, but hanging threads entwine,
Danger signs of an unquiet mind.
People speak yet no one’s spoken,
Glass-made thoughts are always broken,
Nothing seems right, trapped in the bind
of
Danger signs of an unquiet mind.
Obnoxious questions and doubts running in circles,
Deafening static breaking for stressful commercials,
Nothing works, it will not unwind;
Danger signs of an unquiet mind.
Pressing, pinching, pushing, poking.
Shifting, shouting, slapping, shoving.
Offering a peace it knows you won’t find…
Danger signs of an unquiet mind.
It won’t stop, it won’t quiet, won’t now.
Shut it shut it shut it down.
Not possible, it isn’t mine, not mine…!
Don’t trust the signs of an unquiet mind.

This piece was inspired by the Mental Health Awareness of the month of May. It is describing the way that sometimes, a person's mind just won't be quiet. It's loud, and it won't shut down, and it can be frustrating and misleading. Many people who suffer from anxiety, depression, and other Mental Illnesses can suffer from an unquiet mind, but it is something everyone deals with, and I wrote it hoping that some people can relate and feel comfort in the fact that someone else understands them.
