Kept within your thoughts
I hope that I am kept within your thoughts
Where all your dreams and aspirations stay.
You took my heart and tied it in a knot.
I look towards the empty parking lot,
And if I saw you here I think I’d say,
“I hope that I am kept within your thoughts.”
My heart that once was loose feels oh so taut,
I feel as though there is no other way;
You took my heart and tied it in a knot.
Sometimes I think it best that I forgot
The things that we have talked about in May.
I hope that I am kept within your thoughts.
Your voice has left me feeling so distraught.
And if I see you here I hope you’ll say,
“You took my heart and tied it in a knot.”
It’s true that your attention I have sought,
And often I look for you in the day.
I hope that I am kept within your thoughts.
You took my heart and tied it in a knot.

This is a villanelle! I had a lot of fun experimenting with a different type of poem when I wrote this. It’s always a fun challenge to try and be aware of the meter and rhyme scheme of your poem when trying certain forms of poetry, but the result is always worth the time spent on it. On that note, forgive me if my iambic pentameter isn’t perfect!
