Purple Crayon's Lament MAG
Alone in a box
Surrounded by colors
Roy G. Biv
The whole lot of them
And me, purple, alone
What a cruel, ironic world
A common name in color
But the only one in wax
Some cruel joke
By a spurned crayon namer
His ex's favorite color was purple
Or a misprint on the label
“Purple mountain majesty” perhaps
Close to violet in color
But in name, no match
Or maybe, I just happened
The first and last of my kind
A weird mutation toward normalcy
How else could “razzmatazz”
Or “atomic orange” or “laser lemon”
Find matches but not me?
Alone for whatever reason
With only my purple wrapper
Until someone unwraps me,
Then what?
Maybe then they will think I am violet
And at last I will have a home
