There is No Torture
Warm yesterdays and a shivering dawn
The death of a right and the rise of a wrong
Having a heart filled with old photographs
Cluttered with ifs and has beens and I hads
Knowing there's only one path you can tread
But walking another inside of your head
Never forgetting the way to remember
Every night dreaming the scent of September
Wanting the feeling of fingers entwined
The heart getting tired and wrinkled and lined
The sweet gentle curves of her velvety skin
Knowing within it's a war you can't win
Wanting to scream but knowing it's of no use
As every string takes the shape of a noose
Watching what once was one breaking in two
Watching her find someone better than you
Helpless to mend the mistakes that were made
Reaching for feelings that one day will fade
Having demons to slay but not knowing the way
Losing her interest again every day
There is no torture like your childhood room
A rug littered with dreams that once had you consumed
No torture like wanting to rip out your heart
So the next time you saw her the pain wouldn't start
