How To Bury A Lie
Dawn breaks when I slice through blades of grass
Impaling the Earth’s crust with my shovel’s serrated head
Ground breaks when clumps of dirt are ripped free with my words
“No, we aren’t”
I spear the soil, again, again, again
The hole widens, yawns open to swallow me whole
“No, we aren’t”
“No, we aren’t”
Ultimately, I will be okay, I tell myself
Pitiful, pathetic, I fall, fall, fall
“No, we aren’t”
“No, we aren’t”
“No, we aren’t”
Buried in the ground below my fortress of trust
Underground, here lies all the lies I’ve told
Roaring, the darkness devours me, destroys me
You can’t see it now, but I am home
“No, we aren’t”
“No, we aren’t”
“No, we aren’t”
“No, we aren’t”
In the depths, in the shadows, I am safe
“No, we aren’t”
They can’t hurt me anymore, I am sheltered from them
“No, we aren’t”
