Bridging the Gap
I twist my fingers
in your hand
weave them through
your sweat soaked pores
searching for a sign
hoping you are still there
I pull your pupils to my eyes
Begging for some unseen bridge
To gap the distance
Now that you’ve gone away from here
Your crazy smile breaks your lips
Burning down my bridge, my hope
You laugh and shove me to the ground
And bind my dreams down with the rope
I wove to bridge the gap
White powder coats your upper lip
A gentle patch of snow
Your every Friday party high
That kills the you I know
You’ll tell me that you’re sorry
That it wasn’t really you
I’ll suffer through the memories
And say I love you too
Bandages can hide my beaten flesh
And clothes can hide the scars
But nothing can hide the truth from me
Of who you really are.
