Ideation
I know.
I heard him call you
Annoying.
I saw
You hiding yourself
So well
That he couldn’t
See what you so desparately wanted him
To see.
She meets the eyes of the girl in the mirror
Then looks away
After
An instant.
She can’t bear to see the pain
Reflected there.
There is a crash as a teenager falls
Down the stairs
He hopes no one saw
But I saw.
They burst in together
Laughing
Unthinking, because if they think
They’ll see
That they’re pointless
And they don’t want to see
That they’re hurting.
I didn’t mean
To make you mad
But somehow
I didn’t see
That you cared so much
I’m sorry.
She looks in his eyes
And sees nothing
Because
He is hiding
His deepest heart
Because he doesn’t really
Love her.
Their gaze drops.
There’s no deep reason
For this life.
We only are
The way we are
Because of hormones that will
Go away.
They say.
And that was why
We all fell on each other
And cried.

POWERFUL. Brutally honest, and with a last stanza that kicks you in the gut--- a masterpiece, yet again.
