Petals MAG
A little girl buried golden in the saffron of a cornfield
Complacent grinturned facing the sun
Daisies tossed among the loose sunflower strands
Thatcover her tiny dimples until
She pulls them back again
They spill over herjade-green eyes
And for a moment she can't see the soft petals
That lay inher hand
She sits bent and picks up another
And kisses it recalling thewords that she heard from her mother
Sweet dreams of roses and churches andsmiles just for her
Belonging to someone forever and feeling loved
Shethinks of this someone as she pulls the flower apart
Eyes closed, she blowsinto the wind and offers her wish
Watching as the pretty petals fall softly onthe ground
And without even realizing by the touch of her own hand
Theflower before her once whole
Has now gone limp and barren
