Liz In Sickness Liz In Health MAG
Liz In Sickness
She is tall, pale
and sometimes I swear
I can see her gangly skeleton
through translucent skin
I feel as though to embrace her
would be to break her.
As I brush by in the close space
of the office,
I knock her accidentally
so that her bones chink and rattle
like teacups on saucers,
like Marley's chains.
Liz In Health
Sometime in the recent past
color has washed over her perfect,
smooth skin,
like sunset on clouds,
like blood in water.
A matter-of-factness
in her tone of voice
draws me out of self-pity.
I love to hear her talk
of her future.
