Summer Heat
Summer heat
I can hear the pit pat
of barefeet on the hot pavement,
laughter carries through the humid air,
and all I can think about is dripping
into the cool water of the community pool.
Cold like a knife
the sensation of making that first full dive is incomparable,
the smell of chlorine reaches my nostrils,
the sound of a lifegaurd's whistle twirls through the air
like a bird that has migrated here to enjoy the summer.
I look around
and all the people in their bathing suits,
creating a collage of color, an artists pallet.
Oranges. Reds. Yellows.
Reminds me of the sunset that is not too far off.
I take a deep breath
and dive into the blue
