Daddy's Shoes
Skin once worn by a cow, now worn by a father
Thousands of crevices for each year of wear and tear
Laces torn and stretched by chomping puppy teeth
A nauseating and sweet, putrid and steaky aroma
So strong it’s almost a taste.
A minty glob swarmed with bacteria
Sticking to pavement with every step
Nature once firmly planted on the earth,
jammed between the treads
Odd how shoes so professional have traveled such adventures
Chasing sparky after a skunk, that ghastly smell lingering still
Changing a flat tire in the pouring rain, drowning in a puddle while cars zoom past
Stepping through the front door smelling dinner on the stove; your little girl wrapped around your leg
Giant tired feet always on the go
Begging for Dr.Scholls salvation
Now proudly standing barefoot on the carpet
Happily replaced by tiny baby toes
Nothing nearly as precious as a shoeless father
a rambunctious 2 year old
Tromping around in Daddy’s shoes
