Toyed With
Why?
Why do you toy with me?
Like a ball of yarn,
casually batted aside.
A song,
to be fancied one day and ignored the next.
You lure me,
tug on my heart,
and convince me to fall again.
And then you pull the rug out from under my feet,
and I fall,
but this time onto the floor.
Why?
Why must you kiss me today,
and shun me tomorrow?
My heart is whole and beating,
and then you sweep it off the table,
and shatter it like a glittering waterfall.
You watch the pieces of me,
collapse on the floor,
and grin.
And then,
you turn,
and walk away.
