Pain.
The fire that consumes me so
Each and every day
That will not go away
Is a whip that deals out blow after blow.
I don’t know how to make it go
So it I must obey;
And so I simply stay
In this heartless, cheerless snow.
I got in here quite suddenly—
I don’t remember when.
Woke up with this disease in me
And the weight of all my sin.
Now I can neither hear nor see
Through all the dark and din.
