The Thief
For a time I thought there was a thief among us
Causing all of my hurt and fuss
He stole my identity
And pulled me into a blind conformity
He took what made me an individual
And dropped me into a life too habitual
I do not know how to stand out
And I am too afraid to shout
Scream for what he stole
And take back my soul
What made me unique is gone
Now I am like the ducks, not a swan
Beautiful in my own way
That is what I used to say
Now I am like everyone else, a clone
I can no longer think on my own
Walking in perfect lines, dressed the same
An insignificant copy is what I became
The pressure is so strong
He is as mean as the day is long
I was mocked by him
Until I could no longer grin
I needed to change
Or I would be forever labeled as strange
There was no way out
I was filled with sadness and self doubt
I had no clue who the thief could be
But now I realize the thief, was me
