Ice Cream
I’m not little anymore
Don’t feed me those lies
That sweet only existed
And sour would never arise
Life isn’t an ice cream cone
With two cherry scoops on top
We may all be human, equal and same
But we treat it as if we are not
Chocolate and vanilla
How rarely do they mix?
Both creamy, but different in taste
A problem we cannot fix
Jellybeans of all color and taste
Red, pink, blue and more
They say celebrate differences, when in truth
Religion and color cause war
Chocolate sprinkles and M&M’s
How sweet they must taste with each other
But we’ll never know, cause it just goes to show
In this world, brother turns on brother
Life is not a candy shop
Not everything is sweet
There are sour gummy worms
And bitter tarts that break your teeth
Chocolate and vanilla alike
Swirling them up on one cone
This world belongs to every single one of us
This world alone is our home
Celebrate the differences
Of mint and rocky road
Neighbor help neighbor, family alike
We can afford to share our loads
I understand now that sour exists
And next time I get ice cream to savor
I’ll ask the man for only one cone
But I’ll pick more than one flavor
