Ballad of a Broken Heart
The formula for disaster spewed from your lips
Anger, hatred, rage
Cutting me like whips
How could I have been so misled?
You said you loved me
But I guess it was all in my head
You say I'm digging my own grave
Doesn't that make you a hypocrite when it was you that I saved?
I thought senility came at old age
Or maybe it was amnesia that made you forget
That what we had was invariable
Unchanging and true
How could you leave me now
After all that we've been through?
Your vacuous stare verifies you're not there
Funny how you never tried to obscure how much you didn't care.
The tension between us seems tangible
Thick- like we could cut it with a knife
When you leave, I'll soon retrogress to a shriveled, waste of life
Your menacing, stony glare makes me want to cower
Every silent second seems to last an hour
Our deteriorating love is now a specter in the past
I should have known from the start that this wouldn't last.
