Noises
Was it so much her fault that noises blared louder in her ears? When bells sounded she often caused a great scene. Perhaps she heard too well, listened to hard with her funnels for ears. Nobody could blow into a brassy tube while she looked on. And shrieking at the whir of the vacuum cleaner on the carpet, was estrangement a proper accolade? She remembers now not how the vacuum rang in her head, but rather how she would dream of having been born deaf.
