Epiphany of Senescence
Aging
Takes away from your
mind
We wake up
One day,
to realize we have forgotten
We try to remember
-no pictures
-no diary
-no documentation of past
Pretentious as we are
We believe we will always
remember
Can you recall that night?
Pills
syringes
IVs
No drug can dredge up
Those beautiful days
when we walked
side by side
among the stars
the world was ours
Assisted living
are the living dead
And we forget
Why we wish
to remember
There is pain mixed with the beauty
We forget to love
but also to hate
Some hunger for senescence in retrograde
Others crave death
slow and painless
And suddenly
as we lay dying
We remember
