You reach for my hand, and beg me to remember
All that I lost
I tell you I can’t
And instead, you whisper into my ear
Of spring days and summer nights
And stars that sprinkled pixie dust onto the moon
Of how the ocean gently bites at the sand
And the sky changes colors constantly
Like your eyes
You tell me of snow like sugar
And green trees
But as I try to see these things
I tell you that I can’t
All I see is blood
And crying children with callused hands
I see a man on the street holding
A cup filled with two pennies
And I weep at your voice
Which disguises the pain I know exists
Because the world cannot only be sugar snow and pixie dust
Sadness is a part of life, and life is unexpected
But your whispers sound so good
So in vain, I try to remember
