The Mask
I wear the mask that darkly hides
All things dear and close inside
It protects me from the specter’s stare,
That gaping jaw the knowing mare
My mask is my security.
The mask is fine, it’s good you see
It shields me from humilities,
It grants me my impunities,
My mask is my sovereignty.
But there’s something wrong and disturbing though
My mask it seems has a mind of its own.
Its shroud consumes the largest crowd
Its eyes reflect metallic black
Its heavy breathing destroys all sound
My mask is proceeding to attack.
My mask greets the coming tide,
Then swelling up to enormous size
It takes a blade and aims for a chest
And drives it through the mortal flesh.
My friend, my friend
My friend is dead.
He took a knife
And killed my friend.
My mask is evil
The mask is wrong
Take it away
The mask is wrong.
Oh please not again
Not another friend
Take it away
Not another friend.
To live and die
To live and die
The time will come
To live and die.
