Pap Paw
I remember everything about my Pap Paw,
From hair to his clothes
To that little pocket knife we used to peal pecans with
Never will I forget on ninth birthday the gift he gave to me
Unwrapping it carefully wondering what’s inside
Inside the box was that little pocket knife we used to peal pecans with
Running outside to get a pecan
Pealing it carefully whoops I slipped
Running in crying running to him
Getting me a band aid for my little bitty cut
Nine months later going to see him lay in his bed
Never will I forget that horrible day
Never will I forget his last words to me
Willy don’t be sad don’t cry don’t worry about me
I love you take care of mom and tiff
Be the man of the house was his very last words to me
